(P-L-03) Domestic Automotive           16 hours

 

            All fundamental topics will be covered.  Students will be provided with information regarding essential tools and equipment and will practice safe operation and proper application.  They will learn and practice in class, the terminology and basics of cylinder and key construction, configuration and operation including key generation, general cylinder servicing, and cylinder and linkage manipulation.  The hands-on portions of the class will focus on disassembly; keying, rekeying and reassembly of cylinders; effecting repairs to damaged units where feasible.  Students will also learn and understand the systems, which interface with automotive locking systems, such as electronic security and SRS (air bag) systems.

Prerequisites:  Basic Locksmithing

The information presented will be useful in preparing for PRP section L-03. ALOA members who pay the additional lab fee for the test may take PRP Section L-03 at the end of the class.
