Advanced Automotive Lock Service
Sunday, February 20, 2005 Raymond D’Adamo, CML is originally from Hoboken, NJ. In 1973 he graduated Rutgers University and in 1977 he began locksmithing in Boulder Colorado. In 1981 he began writing automotive locksmithing technical articles for locksmith publications, and began instructing automotive locksmithing courses at trade association meetings and conventions. In 1983 he and his wife Tina D’Adamo moved to Fort Collins, CO and opened Fort Security Center which has grown to two additional facilities in Greeley and Loveland, CO. Ray is an active member of ALOA since 1978 and is a two time (1991 & 2002) recipient of the ACE award which is presented to the outstanding ACE instructor for the year. Ray is the recipient of the 2004 Keynotes Author of the Year award.
Advanced Automotive Lock Service Instructor: Raymond D’Adamo, CML 8 hours This course is designed for students already proficient in intermediate automotive lock service, who are ready to reach beyond two dimensions and enter the world of three dimensional automotive lock service. During this course, the fuzzy realm of Lexus, Saab, Mercedes Benz, and all the others come into focus. Hands on clinic highlights include duplication a key and decoding a cylinder and fitting a fully functional first key. Students groups will study the entire lock package of a particular system to get the big picture, then pass it along to receive another set. Individual students will disassemble, re-assemble, key and re-key different system cylinders and effect repairs to damaged units where feasible. Many other topics, such as alarm systems, valet systems, air bag and transponder systems will also be covered. The afternoon session will include an intense product review, during which students will identify the unique characteristics of each manufacturer and practice the fastest methods of key making and service. Materials needed: selection of hand tools, such as screwdrivers, an awl, files, lock picks, possibly a small clamp-on vise, a small hammer and any additional tool you feel will be helpful for bench work. Prerequisite: Basic & Intermediate Automotive Lock Service or equivalent experience. Students who are ALOA members may take the PRP elective for each class at the end of the class for an additional $15.00 per elective
